The morning came for Brenda on June 3, 2024. She passed from pain and suffering into the light of a new day in heaven. She was welcomed by Mama, Daddy and our precious baby brother, Alan. The family circle continues to be unbroken. There is a vision of her walking the streets of gold with the family gone before her. Broken bodies made whole for all eternity. Thank you Jesus for the hope of glory and your promises.
Brenda was the first born to Henry and Tootsie Barker. She was a natural-born climber that kept them on their toes. A tomboy at heart, Daddy would come home to find her hanging upside down on the swing set. The decision was made to switch from dresses to shorts. School introduced new skills. Her favorite pastime was drawing horse heads on reams of paper originally bought for school use. Choir brought the lifelong love of music. Singing in the Madrigal choir brought her great joy in high school. She started her military career August 1969 in the Air Force and continued in the Texas Army National Guard for many years of service.
Brenda met the love of her life, Scotty, at Ellington Air Force Base. They married January 1971 and shared 53 years of love and dedication. She and Scotty shared many happy years of camping and boating together. Brenda found great joy in reading and giving to those she loved.
She is survived by her husband, Scotty Garrett, sisters, Barbra Barker and Janet (Paul) Vaut, niece, Lindsay Liggitt, nephew, Nathan Vaut, and great niece, Adalynn Liggitt.
A graveside service for Brenda will be held Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at 12:00 PM at Onion Creek Memorial Park, 11610 Chapel Ln, Austin, TX 78748.
