Robert “Bob” Hainesworth Morris, Sr., 85, returned to his heavenly home on March 28, 2019 after a prolonged struggle with heart disease. He passed away at his home in Austin, Texas, surrounded by his loved ones. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.
Bob was born to the late Jim and Margaret Morris in San Antonio, Texas on March 18, 1934. He was raised in a loving family with eight adventurous, fun-loving brothers and sisters. After graduating from Burbank High School in San Antonio, Bob enlisted in the Air Force during the finality of the Korean War and served until 1956.
He married his best friend and high school sweetheart, Muriel Jackson, on December 6, 1953. The following 65-year journey with his beloved wife and partner saw them blessed with three children, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Bob and Muriel moved to Austin in 1964 where he worked as a real estate broker. In 1972, he returned to Southwest Texas State University and completed his Bachelors of Science in Education. Soon after obtaining his degree, Bob became a sixth grade teacher with the Austin Independent School District until retiring due to health issues.
However, Bob was an educator at heart with a desire to help and to serve. His love for the Lord and the people of his community led him to take on many roles such as Coach, Scout Leader, Sunday School Teacher, Shelter Volunteer, Deacon, Prison Ministry Leader, Youth Camp Leader and personal mentor.
Bob’s love of learning and history led him to visit numerous historical sites throughout the United States with his family in tow. Bob was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He shared this love with his children and grandchildren throughout his entire life. Additionally, Bob loved baseball and football, specifically his beloved Longhorns.
Bob is survived by his wife, Muriel; his sons Robert and Paul, his daughter Suzie; his grandchildren Lauren, Cori, Emily, Aaron, Caleigh, and Jackson; and his great grandchildren Lilly and Elijah. He is preceded in death by his mother, father and his eight brothers and sisters.
