Benito L. Rodriguez, 99, of Austin, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2020. Ben was born on December 16, 1920, in Creedmore, Texas to Trinidad and Francisco Rodriguez. Preceded in death was his loving and devoted wife of 34 years, Elisa Rodriguez and his beautiful daughter, Linda Fletcher. Ben is survived by Elisa’s son, Rudy Cisneros, Jr. and daughter, Julie Cisneros-Cantu and their grandchildren, Michael Cisneros, Mark Cisneros, Matthew Cisneros, Andrew Cantu and Casey Fletcher. Ben was the second eldest in a large family of 10 children. Surviving siblings are Trina, Roy, Julia, Gilbert, Frank, Mary and Elvita Rodriguez.
Benito was a proud World War II Army Veteran who courageously fought with the 12th Field Artillery Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division in the Battle of the Bulge. He honorably served our Country for over 20 years. During that time, he earned several medals including the Good Conduct Medal, American Deference Service Medal, Purple Heart, European Theater of Operations Campaign Medal with 4 Bronze Stars, Army of Occupation and the Victory Medal.
Ben was a quiet natured man who loved the Yankees, a hot cup of coffee, chocolate in any form, and anything with Jerry Lewis. Ben was a devout Catholic and member of St. Ignatius Martyr Catholic Church. Ben and Elisa enjoyed being actively involved in church activities and the friendship of many wonderful church members.
The family would like to give a warm sincere thank you to his nurses and caretakers who treated him as family. We would like to thank Maria, James, Monica, Jackie, Elsie, Kathy, Cecil and Kevin for their generosity of care and compassion. Finally, a special thanks to Denise Montalvo for her dedication and friendship.
Visitation will start at 6:00 pm followed by a Rosary at 7:00 pm, Monday, August 3, 2020 at Weed-Corley- Fish Funeral Home, 2620 South Congress.
Interment will be held at the Assumption Cemetery on Tuesday, August 4, at 10:00 am.
Currently, due to the substantial public risk, city and state government mandates that social gatherings of limited amounts may occur with strict social distancing protocol. Current COVID protocols for Travis County, guests must wear protective masks at all times while inside the funeral home facility and practice the recommended six foot social distancing. Weed-Corley-Fish South will limit our capacity to 60 guests at a service while enforcing all distancing and hygiene standards. We appreciate your understanding.
