Barbara Ann (Bobbie) Fess Walker was born October 21, 1936 in Haynesville, LA to Corrynne Waller Fess and Vaughn Fess and passed away November 3, 2022 shortly after her 86th birthday in Austin, Texas. She is survived by her husband of more than 63 years, James R. Walker, son James Bryan Walker, daughter Melinda Lee Walker Hahn, granddaughter Erin Ashley Hahn and grandson Jason Walker Hahn. She attended Haynesville High School and was a member of the Marching Band. Bobbie then completed the Bachelor of Science degree in Northwestern State University, Natchitoches, LA, majoring in Medical Technology and was a member of the Beta Beta Beta Honorary Biology Society.
After graduation, she and her husband moved to Austin, Texas where she worked in the Seton Hospital medical laboratory and supported him while he attended graduate school at the University of Texas. They then moved to Landstuhl, Germany where James was stationed in the U.S. Army. Their son James Bryan was born there and they traveled to most of the western European countries. Following two years in Kendall Park, NJ, they returned to Austin, Texas, where they lived for the next 55 years, except for one year in Lexington, MA. In Austin, daughter Melinda Lee Walker was born.
Bobbie was devoted to her children and grandchildren and participated in their activities, including basketball, baseball, soccer, camping, and horseback riding. She was an annual fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. She also returned to Seton Hospital as a Medical Technologist, qualified to work in all departments, but concentrating mostly on the chemistry section. The family enjoyed travel and visited most of the U.S. states. During the last eight years of her life, she suffered progressing dementia and its complications, but remembered her family members and kept her clever, ironic sense of humor until the end. Bobbie was strong in a beautifully quiet, unimposing, gentle way, kind, giving, always helping others, always thoughtful of others, and loved by all who knew her.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. and a funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at Weed Corley Fish Funeral Home 5416 Parkcrest Drive, Austin, TX 78731. A committal service will occur at Austin Memorial Park, 2800 Hancock Drive, Austin, TX 78731.
Charitable contributions in Bobbie's honor can be made to the Central Texas Food Bank or the Salvation Army.
