Clodelle Inman Schooley was born April 5, 1921, to Carlton and Bart Inman in Burnet County, Texas, the youngest of four children. She died in Austin on Saturday, October 16, 2010, joining her husband Forest Barton “Buck” Schooley, son Forest Barton “Bucky” Schooley, Jr., and grandson Kelly Stegall in Heaven.
Buck and Clodelle were part of “The Greatest Generation.” They were married in 1942, and lived in Massachusetts while Buck trained as a part of the 36th Division before it deployed to Africa in WWII. In 1945, upon Buck’s discharge, they made Austin their home. They were married for 55 years until his death in 1997.
She worked for the Texas Employment Commission for several years and the Travis County Appraisal District until her retirement.
The matriarch of what became a large family, she was known by many names; Mom or Mother to daughters Sharon East and Carla Stegall, Mommu to daughter-in-law Carolyn Schooley, and grandchildren Kristin East Hubbard, Joshua East, Jennifer Schooley Powell, Stephanie Schooley Denning, Jacob Stegall, Bart Schooley, and Jennifer Klein, as well as great-grandchildren Cole and Madison Hubbard, Josie Powell, Willa Denning, Tate Stegall, Mason, Jordan, and Trevin Schooley, and Kyle Guetlein. Her friends called her Clo, and to her many nieces and nephews she was Aunt Pete.
She was a faithful member of Bethany Lutheran Church and bemoaned the fact that her physical frailties kept her from attending regularly. Dr. William Knippa, Pastor Kevin Lentz and Lay Minister Jim McHan were tireless in their ministry to her in her home. Thank you, gentlemen.
Her body was frail, but her spirit was strong. The Texas Longhorns’ athletic teams had no greater 89-year-old fan; she could almost always find a game to watch, be it the ‘Horns, the Cowboys, the Rangers, or the Spurs.
