Angelyn Wuthrich Smith, born in Pflugerville, Texas on May 31, 1932, passed away peacefully in her home on August 10, 2023. Angelyn, affectionately known as "Angie," lived a life filled with purpose, love, and an unwavering dedication to her family, community, and passions.
Angie was born to Otto and Verona Wuthrich, and her early years were marked by an insatiable curiosity and a zest for learning. She graduated from Pflugerville High School and continued her education at Texas Lutheran College and then the University of Texas at Austin, where she earned a degree in Medical Technology. In 1957, she married her college sweetheart, Leslie Smith, and together they embarked on a journey that would span decades and create cherished memories.
Angie and Leslie's life was a vibrant tapestry of shared experiences. They found joy in auto rallies, & leisure weekends by Lake LBJ, often entertaining family and friends. Their love for travel and nature led them to explore the world together, and their shared passion for fine collections and gardening bound them even closer. Angie's involvement in the Austin Zilker and Violet Crown Garden Clubs reflected her commitment to nurturing beauty and growth in every aspect of her life.
Professionally, Angie made an indelible mark. She dedicated over 30 years of service to the Austin State Hospital, where she served as the Laboratory Supervisor and led their Medical Technology School. Her expertise, leadership, and compassion left an enduring impact on her colleagues and the countless lives she touched through her work.
Angie's legacy is carried forward by her sister Eileen W. Gant, her brother Otto and his wife Gloria Wuthrich, sister-in-law Tessie Smith Pesce, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Leslie, sister Julia Reeves, and great-nephew Chase P. McGowen.
Angie's final moments were spent surrounded by her dear family and beloved caregivers, especially her Rosie Zarate, who was with her over 10 years.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish to honor her memory can make a donation to Easter Seals or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, causes close to her heart.
Angie's spirit will forever inspire us to cultivate beauty, cherish loved ones, and give selflessly to others. As we celebrate her life, let us also remember the profound impact she had on all who were privileged to know her.
Rest in peace, dear Angie, your light will continue to shine in our hearts.
