Andrew Mitchell Brooks

Andrew Mitchell Brooks (Drew) was born in Round Rock, Texas on April 7th, 1995, to Carrie and Mitch Brooks and big sister Tana. He was the first grandchild to Lurah and Jim Brawner (Nana and Paca Jim) and Don Brooks (Granddad), a highly anticipated welcome to their family with Cousin Zoe soon to follow. Drew was the 8th grandchild to Joanne Moore (Grammy) with 4 additional cousins to follow. His life was full of family stretched between Houston, Austin, Dallas, and San Francisco.

As Drew became school age, Mitch and Carrie decided to make the 9.5 mile move from Pflugerville to the Spicewood area of Austin. This move not only gave them a new home, but a Framily that to this day are an integral part of their lives. Drew attended Spicewood Elementary, Canyon Vista Middle School, and Westwood High School. He played sports, learned to play instruments, and loved music. He played lacrosse in high school and settled on the bass guitar, eventually playing the guitar after being self-taught. After High School, Drew moved to Denton, Texas graduating from the University of North Texas in 2018. Although college was an achievement, it wasn’t what drove Drew and his passion for music. His dream was to follow The Grateful Dead in Lucy the Good Times Van. He made this dream a reality with his beloved dog Onix and partner Tori Etter. Together they hit the road following The Dead while adding mileage to Lucy and Drew collecting tattoos. He said that this was his idea of Heaven.

Eventually, he settled in Denver Colorado, the land of picturesque views and beautiful weather. He had hopes of making a living refurbishing vintage sneakers and then possibly working with Nike. After 5 years living in Denver while working on accomplishing these dreams, Austin called him back home. Upon his return home, Drew found a new passion for woodworking. With his good looks and charming personality, he got the opportunity to apprentice with a master carpenter. He was very proud of his work and loved sharing stories about the new skills he was learning and the new tools he was acquiring. Unfortunately, Drew’s journey in this world ended on February 3rd, 2024. He unexpectedly passed away, leaving holes in the hearts of the people who loved him most.

Drew is survived by his mother, Carrie Brooks; father, Mitch Brooks; his wife, Kim; his sister, Tana Taylor and brother-in-law Andrew Taylor, their children Julia, Hart, and Hayes; his grandmother and grandfather, Lurah and Jim Brawner; and his precious dog Onix. Drew was a dynamic person; he was a musician, an artist, a lover of books, a seeker of knowledge, a man with many layers. He was a son, a brother, an uncle, a godfather, a friend, and someone who touched the lives of all he encountered.

His funeral will be held on Saturday, February 17th at 2pm at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 10205 N. FM 620, Austin, Texas 78726. Reception to follow at the Twin Creeks Country Club, 3201 Twin Creeks Club Dr, Twin Creeks, Texas 78613.
