Alicia Barrera, a woman of deep faith, unwavering devotion, and boundless love for her family, peacefully met her Savior on May 25, 2023. Born on December 8, 1925, in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. Alicia lived a remarkable 97 years, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be cherished.
Alicia was the youngest of nine children, born to Josefina Macias Diaz de Leon and Moises Diaz de Leon. She grew up in a caring family, surrounded by the love and support of her parents, five sisters, and three brothers, who have all preceded her in transitioning to heaven. Their memories and the bonds they shared will remain eternally cherished.
At a young age, Alicia embarked on a new chapter of her life, moving to the United States and settling in San Diego, Texas. While in San Diego she met and fell in love with Ruben who just finished his service with the U.S. Navy. Ruben won her heart. They were married for 58 years. Alicia and Ruben made Austin, Texas their home in 1956. They raised three children Ruben Isaac, Miriam Elizabeth, and Abraham Barrera. She retired from the State of Texas after a lengthy career.
Alicia Barrera treasured her family. She was a devoted wife, a nurturing mother, a doting grandmother, great grandmother, and a beloved aunt. Her love knew no bounds, and she poured her heart into creating a warm and loving home for her family. Family gatherings were always filled with great food, laughter, shared stories, and cherished memories, creating a tapestry of love that will forever endure. She built a life filled with love, faith, and devotion, that has made an indelible impact.
Most notably, Alicia's love for God was the guiding force in her life. She found strength through her unwavering faith, and her devotion was evident in the life she lived. She spent many hours in prayer that helped impact the lives of friends, family, and ministries. Her unwavering belief in Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit through prayer served as an inspiration to those around her.
In the hearts of those who knew Alicia, her love and light will continue to shine in us brightly. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, devotion, and unwavering love for God and family. Though we mourn her passing, we find peace knowing that she is now reunited with her loved ones and they are resting in love and peace with Jesus Christ.
Alicia Barrera's memory will forever live on in the hearts of her children Ruben Isaac Barrera, Miriam Elizabeth Speight and Abraham Barrera. Her nine grandchildren, Lisa Polk, Sara Barrera, Rebekah Barrera, Andrea Barrera, Ray Anthony Martinez, Jeanette Cantu, Carmen Castelán, John Spiller, Elizabeth Bishop, Suzette Burrow, and Ashley Lizzie Castro. She has 32 great-grandchildren, and 4 great great-grandchildren. Her large family will continue to carry her love and teachings with them.
