Roy Harrington

Roy was born on the family farm in Downeyville, Ontario (outside of Lindsay). He was the second of four sons born to Frank and Mamie Harrington. He is predeceased by his brothers Tom (Madeline), and Paul (Eleanor) and is survived by his brother Bill (Elsie). Roy was blessed with numerous nieces and nephews all over Ontario as well as in Calgary, Tennessee and Arkansas and was affectionately known as “Uncle Bud”.

Although living on the farm was full of both hard work and adventures, Roy felt the calling to life in the City and so moved to Toronto where he met and married the love of his life, Marlee. They later moved to Aurora where they lived for 34 years until her passing in 2008 after celebrating 41 years of marriage.

Roy and Marlee were so proud of their family with daughters Terry (Rob) and Tracey (Mike) and grandchildren Victoria, Liam, Logan, Tess, Katherine and Austin.

Roy was an active member at Our Lady of Grace Church devoting time and energy to eucharistic ministry as well as the Knights of Columbus.

Roy loved a good round of golf or euchre and was die hard fan of the Green Bay Packers, Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Argonauts since the early days of listening to their games on the radio. His favorite activity was that of the supportive grandparent. He enjoyed his time attending his grandchildren’s hockey games, Irish dance feis, go karting races and dance recitals.

Thanks to the staff at Delmanor Aurora and all his friends there for making the last 2 years so enjoyable. Even though he lived there a short time, he was always encouraging others to make the move there and join him.

Visitation will take place on Monday, January 15, 2024 from 2 – 4 p.m. & 6 – 8 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home, 530 Industrial Parkway South, Aurora. Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Grace Church, 15347 Yonge St. Aurora on Tuesday at 11 a.m. A private burial will take place.

Donations in Roy’s memory would be gratefully accepted by his family to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Ontario SPCA York Region.
