I'm deeply saddened to learn of the passing of my music teacher whom I remember with great fondness. A highly gifted educator who inspired my own passion for music.

My most heartfelt condolences to the Sedore family.  May you eventually find that smiles replace the tears.

Mrs. Sedore had a profound influence on many students at Dr.G.W. Williams, including me.  She introduced us to the world of jazz and with all that travel, the world at large.  My fondest high school memories revolve almost entirely around her bands.  At a time when many kids don’t feel they belong anywhere, they belonged in band.

“Once a band kid, always a band kid!”.

I’ve known Penny for a long time.  Penny was my friend and work partner at Dr. G. W. Williams Secondary School.  I first met Penny when I was a student at the University of Toronto (Faculty of Education) in 1995.  Penny agreed to take me on as a practice teacher in her music department. Then later, she played an integral role in getting me hired at Dr. G.W. Williams S.S.  We were a great team together! We built an award-winning instrumental and vocal music programme and forged a great friendship.  I have fond memories of Penny as a music educator – wanting to share her enthusiasm and expertise of all genres of music with students.  She was always very supportive of both mine and my families endeavours.  She will be missed.  My deepest sympathies are with Steve and family during this difficult time.

So surprised and saddened to hear of the passing of Penny Sedore.  Penny was a force in music education, paving the way and setting high standards for other music educators and music programs to follow. I was one of those music educators.  She was always very supportive and will be missed.  My condolences to Steve and the family.

So many years of memories spending weeks at the cottage with the Sedore family as our neighbours. Penny with her bright personality and always remarkably kind, lovely with her hair, makeup and nails always just so, tending caringly to the overflowing bunches of flowers decorating their cottage property. Thank you Penny for your warm and gentle  spirit, holding you and your beautiful family in my heart.

The family gathering was of huge importance to Penny and she worked so hard to get ready for her brothers and her family to gather on the dock. To all the love and laughter Penny you will be so very much missed!

Penny was our beautiful cottage neighbour these past 34 years. She loved her cottage time and always shared her love with family and friends gathering on the dock to share stories, a drink and some appetizers.   Penny’s generosity extended into always thinking of what we might reuse over the years including her mom’s Hanover kitchen(still in use) and the rolling washing machine to help with all the baby clothes. We always felt welcomed and met her many friends and family members who became our friends as well. Penny your spirit will always be there as I look across our shared little bay and we promise to pull out any Lilly pads that surface as you look down on us!

Penny was a great colleague and friend . We went to Teacher's College together and knew right away we were of like minds when it came to music education.  Her 30 years at Williams and my 30 years at Barrie North  met many times at OMEA conferences, Regional and National festivals and after retirement lunch half way between her place and mine. I enjoyed many happy phone calls from Penny and I will miss that sparkling voice. My sympathy to Steve and family .  A gentle reminder that we must cherish each day.

Mrs. Sedore was a great teacher and inspired her students to work hard and love of music. 

I’ll never forget the trips and competitions we did, she was so passionate about music that it made us want to work all that more harder. It was also partly because of her I went on to study music in university and still play to this day. 

She will be missed!

Mrs. Sedore was a guiding light and mentor for so, so many students. She kept me focused and disciplined throughout high school and fostered such a positive community for teenagers. Thank you for everything you did, from all of us.

Mrs. Sedore was my music teacher all through high school at Dr. G. W. Williams Secondary School from 2004-2008. She was an absolutely exceptional teacher, who inspired me to continue playing the flute and to push myself to improve. As a young person who was quite nerdy and shy I didn't participate in many extracurricular activities, so after school band practices and our band trips are the most fond memories I have from high school. Without Mrs. Sedore I wouldn't have those core memories nor would I have the confidence and social skills I have today. I often think of her when I hear an Adele song because she used to have us analyse music during class and she played one of her songs once. That was a small moment that I still remember fondly to this day. I haven't played my flute in many years, but I still have it, and this sad news will inspire me to pick it up again in Mrs. Sedore's honour. She was a lovely lady and a passionate and devoted teacher who changed my life for the better. - Madeline Warburton

You have been in my thoughts daily, since hearing the so sad news of Penny's passing. Steve you were so kind to call and I still can't believe she is not with us. Penny was such a delight. She was always so thoughtful.  Among many lovely memories, Brian and I will miss the cookies and date squares that Penny would send home with me. Her fitness training sessions were spent chatting as much as working out...with loving interruptions from Bella of course. I will miss her and you are in my prayers.

I have so many fond childhood memories of Penny (whom we called “Aunt Penny” growing up). She was always so generous and warm and knew how to have a good time. She was a dear friend to my mother, through the trials and joys of life. I know their friendship meant the world to my mom and I imagine they are now together again.

I was a student of Penny Sedore's at Dr. G.W. Williams in the mid 80's.  I am deeply saddened to hear of her passing and send my heartfelt condolences to her family and friends. 
What I remember most about Penny was her passion and unwavering commitment to bringing us the best musical experience she could.  Our band went on exchanges to Montreal and to New York!  She put so much into her work and gave us amazing experiences.  She went above and beyond as a teacher to inspire us and help us to appreciate music and hard work. 
Penny's care and appreciation for music has stayed with me throughout my life.

I am so sorry to hear about Mrs. Sedore. She was an amazing music teacher! She was my teacher for grades 11 and 12 music class, concert band and jazz band. I have so many fond memories of band trips with Mrs. Sedore.  What a wonderful woman who had such a passion for music and sharing her enthusiasm for music with her students. Today, I wanted to revisit my own mothers notice from September.  

I was stopped in my tracks.  

I met Penny Ann and her husband at my place of employment in Aurora, a number of years ago.  I immediately took to her.  To  the point  I remembered Penny Ann.

All I can say is my heart feels for all of you.  No words will ever be enough.  Just know my thoughts are with you and prayers.

God is our great peace and comforter especially in these difficult times.

Penny was an integral part of my musical journey and I’ll forever remember her fondly. 
Thank you for your encouragement and guidance Penny, I wish I didn’t already know everything like most 16-17 year olds think they did back then;)

🌹Penny Sedore was both my children’s Music Teacher who was extraordinary, brilliant and a perfectionist. 
She strived for excellence, her guided hands and love for my children; for all her students will never be forgotten. Her pictures, remarks and love are throughout our home. 

She touched our children’s lives from Sarah-Mae entering her class in September ,1995. at Dr. G.W. Williams Secondary up teaching Elliyas throughout his highschool years at G.W. Williams S.S. 
She encouraged, prepared him to enter York University to be the top trumpet player, in The York University Wind Symphony and in The Wind Ensemble for 4 years. 

I loved raising funds her Music Department for several years. Thank you for over 60 businesses who said yes to me.  I would write an editorial in the Aurora Town Crier Newspaper, and write thank you to the businesses, but explain in full, that Penny Sedore was that incredible, magnificient teacher who looked to stimulate, guide, and teach her students to excel greatly. 

Penny was picture-perfect to encourage, motivate, bless all of her students to win Gold each time as they travelled each year through Canada and the United States. She took her students under her wings and put her mark on every individual she touched. 

We are extremely heartbroken. 🙏🏽

Very saddened to hear of the passing of Mrs. Sedore. An incredible teacher with an endless love for music. Some of my fondest memories are from being a part of the concert and stage bands at Dr. G. W. Williams. She knew how to bring out the best in everybody. My sincerest condolences to her family and many friends.

I am so sorry to hear this! Mrs. Sedore was the best music teacher and the most stylish of them all at Williams. My fondest memories of high school were the trips she took us on to NYC, Philadelphia, and Montreal. I remember buying an « I love NYC » t-shirt and taping a sign over it that said « I love Sedore » and wearing it to my final music exam. RIP Mrs. Sedore!

Steve and Mark and Lauren we are so deeply shocked and saddened by Penny’s passing. She was a wonderful person a good friend and Sorority Sister for nearly 40 years and our whole family will miss her. Music was in her heart and she took the lead to expose all of us in Sorority to as many musical shows downtown as she could. Always so much fun and countless other get togethers at your home that we will treasure. We will hold her memory in our hearts as I know you all will and treasure them always.

Mrs. Sedore was my music teacher in high school at Williams. I have wonderful memories of music class, competitions and band trips. Some of my fondest high school memories were band trips to NYC and Vancouver. 
 Mrs. Sedore always worked so hard and because of her hard work our band usually came in first place at competitions.  She was truly amazing!

The Suddards have had many interactions with the Sedores both at Scouts, the Dentist 's Office and as music students.  

One of my favourite Mrs. Sedore moments was back in 1994 when she was practicing with the Grade 9 band before we headed to the Kiwanis festival.  I was 3rd Clarinet on the theme of Jurassic Park.  Somehow in all that noise of instruments she picked out that 3rd Clarinet wasn't loud enough.  As the only 3rd Clarinet that showed up that day, I never blew through a clarinet harder in my life.

First and foremost to us Penny will be remembered as a true friend, neighbour, and Sorority Sister. She was a fantastic wife, mother, sister, aunt and grandmother. Penny was always so very proud of her family. She had a wonderful circle of friends. Penny will be missed; but never forgotten. She met her husband Steve Sedore at  Cleveland House where both worked...fell in love and the rest is history...wonderful musical teacher at iDr. D. W. Williams High School Became Director of the Music program she will be missed by all the students she taught and touched.
