With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Joseph (Joe) Badali, a cherished husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Joe departed from this world at his home on December 26, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of enduring love and fond memories.
His relationship with his high-school sweetheart, Anne, blossomed into a beautiful marriage that spanned over six decades. Together, they built a family founded on love, resilience, and joy. Joe was a devoted father to Kate (Alastair MacLean), Alison, Lexie (Ron Cocking), and his late, beloved daughter Suzie (2017).
As a proud and loving Grand-Dad, Joe's legacy extends to his grandchildren William (Corrina), Cameron (Sophie), Hugh (Thushitha) Needham, Isabella, Meaghan (Mike), Lauren MacLean, Margaux and his namesake, Joe Badali.
Joe was thrilled to recently meet his first great-grandchild, Bruce Needham, son of Will and Corrina.
Joe is survived by his sisters Josephine Pirri and Augie (Tina) Montanera, and many nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Joe. Predeceased by his sister Mary-Anne Catenacci (2020).
Joe's life journey began in the heart of Toronto, born in his grandparents' home on Graham Gardens. His early years were marked by an ardent passion for sports. From riding the streetcar with his hockey gear as a boy, to winning the Toronto high school football championship, his athletic devotion was legendary. He was an enthusiastic supporter of the Toronto Blue Jays (and sometimes the Leafs), embodying the true spirit of a Toronto sports fanatic. He loved golfing, horses, playing gin rummy and bridge. He was a competitor by nature.
Throughout his life, Joe was blessed with the companionship of many lifelong friends. Their bonds, unbroken by time, were a true reflection of Joe's heart and character, enriching each other's lives with an abundance of cherished memories.
Joe's 85 years were larger than life, and impossible to capture in mere paragraphs. He knew everyone, went everywhere, and had many stories to tell. He was a liberal thinker and a gentleman.
As per Joe's request, there will be no funeral or visitation.
