On July 2, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones at home in Stouffville, Ontario, Jackie peacefully said goodbye after a courageous 18-month battle with mesothelioma. Lovingly known as "Jack" to her devoted husband Peter, Jackie leaves behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and unwavering love.
Born in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, Jackie was raised in Toronto, Ontario, where she gathered lifelong friendships and cherished memories. After going on a blind date in 1970 alongside friends Kent and Helen Carstairs, Jackie married Peter in 1973, and together they built a life brimming with love and shared adventures spanning 51 years.
Jackie's greatest pride and joy were her children: Katie Tyler (Paul) of Newmarket, Ontario, and Megan Harris (Scott) of Victoria, British Columbia. Her heart expanded further with the arrival of her grandchildren: Sarah, Samantha, Charlotte, Liam, and Eloise, who brought her immeasurable happiness.
A dedicated employee of Air Canada for 36 years, Jackie touched countless lives with her grace and hard work as a flight attendant until her retirement in 2003. Her caring nature extended beyond her career into her volunteer work at Scarborough Grace Hospital and Woodhaven Nursing Home, where she brought social comfort and joy to those in need.
An avid hiker and proud of her maritime roots, Jackie found solace and joy in nature, particularly on Coachella Valley's Bump and Grind trail, where very few could keep up to her pace. She loved Christmas dearly, creating cherished traditions and embracing the festive spirit with her family, whom she adored gathering around her during such a special time of year.
Jackie's love for adventure took her and Peter, and her kids, across the globe forming friendships wherever they ventured. She was a beacon of light in the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Preceded in death by her parents John (Jack) and Ada Jollymore, and sister Susan, Jackie is survived by her loving sisters Gladys, Pat, Vivian, and Dawn and so many friends that were like sisters to her.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate healthcare teams at Markham-Stouffville Hospital & Cancer Clinic, and her PSWs, whose dedication and support provided comfort during Jackie's illness.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hill House Hospice (Richmond Hill) who through the loving care of friend Terrilynne, provided in-home love, comfort, and care until the end.
A private celebration of Jackie's life will be held by the family.
Jackie's memory will live on in the hearts of all and especially in her grandchildren. Her legacy of kindness, love, and generosity, will continue to inspire and uplift us all.
“Blossom of snow, may you bloom and grow, bloom and grow forever.”
