On December 12th in the year 1949, Ian Guy Bartlet was born. This made a lot of people very angry and was generally seen as having been a bad idea. A notion that his parents, John Coburn Bartlet and Mary Elizabeth Bartlet (née Dingle); sisters, Beth, Kate and Jane; and his loving wife Kathy Kantel, respectfully disagree with.
Ian was born in Ottawa and received his formal education at the University of New Brunswick, before returning to Ontario to do his Master of Science at Queen's University. He married Kathy in 1976 and together built a loving family, settling in Aurora, Ontario for more than 40 years.
During those years, Ian worked with radio antennae and communications systems and spent his free time reading, fishing, shuttling children to swim practice, cottaging, travelling, scuba diving and playing darts in the Monday night league at the Aurora Legion.
Ian loved his Human family; his daughter Alison Bartlet and son and daughter in law John and Jessica Bartlet. In his retirement Ian adopted and devoted his time to his trusted canine companion Hobart and could often be found exploring the Case Woodlot with Hobie by his side.
On April 29th 2024 at the age of 74, Ian Guy Bartlet, to quote one of his favourite Monty Python skits, “ceased to be”. He passed suddenly at home, with his wife by his side.
Please join us in celebrating the life of Ian Bartlet on Monday May 6, 2024 from 1-3pm at Thompson Funeral Home, 530 Industrial Pkwy South, Aurora, L4G 6W8. There will be no formal ceremony, however the family would like to share some Words of Love at around 2pm.
In lieu of flowers the family would ask that you consider a donation to either The Farley Foundation which helps to provide veterinary services to low income people to ensure that their pets can receive needed medical care, or to the Canadian Cancer Society, in Ian’s name.
