With sadness, we announce that Helen Marion (Thompson) Crews went home to be with her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ on January 15th, 2022. Helen was in her 92nd year. Helen passed peacefully in her sleep just one week after the death of her little sister Jeanette.
Born in Toronto to James and Helen Thompson, Helen was the first born of 3 children. Helen had a happy childhood and often spoke of the times her father would give the children of the neighbourhood rides on the running boards of his car. At the age of 21, Helen met the love of her life, and father of her 5 daughters Raymond Crews, on a blind date. Married for 43 years, Helen and Ray had many adventures together. They enjoyed camping, going to the cottage in Meaford, and spending time with family. Avid sailors, they also enjoyed many happy days on Georgian Bay in their boat “the Sand Dollar”.
Helen was a very loving and protective mother. She was known to refer to her girls as her “little chickens” and she was the “mother hen”. She loved gathering with family and could always be counted on to announce “I have to get a picture of my five girls all together!” Your girls will miss you very much Mom.
Helen was a devoted lifelong Christian who loved and served God, her family and church community faithfully. She will be missed by her church family at Richvale Bible Chapel.
Helen was the beloved mother of Janet Mead, Deborah Maddison (Chris), Christine Baker (Teryl), Bethany Carruthers (Steven) and Patricia Walker (Matthew). Proud Grandma and Nana to Brandon Mead (Leslie) Joshua Mead (Candice), Lindsay Weiland (Mark), Erin Maddison, Matthew Baker, Nicholas Baker (Lauren), Cody Baker, Jacob and Megan Carruthers and Samuel and Georgia Walker. Helen will also be missed by her five great grandchildren, Cameron and Kyler Maddison, Ellie and Cole Weiland, Jaxon Mead and many nieces and nephews. Greeted in Heaven by her husband Raymond Crews, her parents James and Helen Thompson, her sister Jeanette Cornelson, brother in law Manfred Cornelson (Maryland), brother James Thompson (California), brother in law Malcolm Crews and his wife Nancy Crews.
A private visitation and funeral service will be held for the immediate family at Thompson’s Funeral Home in Aurora, followed by burial at the Aurora Cemetery on January 21, 2022. Memorial donations may be made to People’s Church.
