Barbara Joan (nee Scott, then Marshall, then Houlding) has left the building / moved on / died / passed. Known as Barb to her friends and BJ to her family, she was extremely proud that she had finally passed something and receiving the perfect score of 100! She only recently received her long awaited 100 year wishes from Buckingham Palace, Rideau Drive, Queens Park and the Mayor of Aurora!
Barb is predeceased by Bill Marshall, her husband of 36 years, and John Houlding, the last love of her life, and son Stephen.
BJ has left behind her children Pam, Scott (Caroline), Brian (Elizabeth), John (Donna) and David, and step children Anne, David, and John Jr Houlding.
She also leaves behind 12 grandchildren 2 step grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Getting all of their names straight was a testament to her sharp memory.
After serving overseas in Newfoundland during WW2, Barb became a prodigious volunteer and fundraiser. She helped produce cookbooks, drove cancer patients, and played a founding role establishing Hospice King and Hill House Hospice along with serving on the boards of a number of charities.
Through the years Barb was an avid tennis player (with a vicious serve), an avid golfer (with a wicked slice), a great skier, enthusiastic sailor, hostess extraordinaire, lover of dogs, and a wonderful friend to many around the world. She visited all seven continents! She also cut a great figure on beaches through the Caribbean and West Coast (often with very little clothing)!
BJ was the epitome of a great matriarch. She will be deeply missed by all.
Funeral Service will be held on Saturday October 26, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at All Saints Church in King City. A reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Barb's favourite charities - Hill House Hospice and/or L’Arche Daybreak.
Special thanks to all who cared for her.
