William Taylor Strunk, 86, of Aurora, Colorado, passed away on Friday, October 6, 2017 in Aurora, Colorado. Born on October 29th, 1930 near Altus, Oklahoma to William Jacob and Sarah Bell Strunk, he was the youngest and last surviving of nine siblings.
In 1947 on his 17th birthday William left home to join the military and retired from the Air Force as a Master Sargent in 1969. William was married to Valerie Sebastian from 1962 till 1982. In 1987 he met Peg (Margaret Leupold) at a square dance and they married in 1988 in Westminster, Colorado.
In the early 1960’s William was introduced to Toastmasters, an organization that would change his life and become his passion. One of his proudest achievements was founding the George Sutton Toastmaster’s Club in 1979. After 32 years of active participation, William was proud to be awarded Toastmaster Emeritus in the club and he returned occasionally when he wanted to give a speech or just stay current with the membership. As William’s legacy, this club will continue on to help countless individuals develop the skills required to succeed in life. William was also a real estate broker and sole proprietor of the Alpha/Omega Speech Workshop.
William and Peg were avid square dancers and campers, so the Happy Hobos Camping and Square-Dancing Club was an important part of their life together. They have traveled to every state; mostly in their motorhome. He loved to read, garden, play cards and Chess and above all, William was a wonderful conversationalist.
William is survived by his wife, Peg; daughter, Robin Hergenroeder; son, Craig (Marilyn) Strunk; stepchildren, Bob (Sue) Fisher, Patty (Rob) Piper, Sharon (John) Ehrgott ;grandchildren, Courtnei Germanson, Adam Hergenroeder, and Emily, Hailey, and Hannah Strunk; Dawn ( Peter) Porambo, Jenelle ( Mark) Baer, , Melissa Fisher, Jon ( Robin) Fisher, Amy ( Ryan) Bartels; 7 Great Grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held with Full Honor on Friday, November 3rd, 2017 at Ft Logan National Cemetery 1:30pm Staging area "B" followed by a Celebration of Life gathering at Smoky Hill United Methodist Church from 2:30-5:00 PM.
