Mr. Tonni Petersen was born on July 22, 1932 in Copenhagen, Denmark. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1948 at the age of 16. At 18, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and assigned to 188th ABN Inf Reg. 11th Airborne Division. In 1958 he transferred to Ft. Gordon, U.S. Army Signal School and became and Instructor. After 22 years, he retired as a 1SG.E8. He returned as a civilian and was assigned as a training instructor in the NCO Academy and 2 years later to the Officer Signal Basic Course. He retired there with 23 years in 1990. His overseas assignments included Japan, Viet-Nam and Laos. He was a member of the 11 Airborne Divisions Assoc., life member of the Signal Corps Regimental Association, Moriahyama Masonic Lodge No 7, Japan, Grand Commandery Knights Templar #1 of GA and the Alee Shriners of Savannah, GA. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Petersen; daughter, Sharon Petersen of Augusta, GA; sons, Roger W. Petersen of Stone Mountain, GA; step-son, David Ford; six grandsons, Michael Petersen, David Petersen, Jason Petersen, Eric Petersen; two step-grandsons, Jerry Ford and Henry McClain; and several great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his sister, Inger Jensen of Denmark and step-daughter, Patricia Crews of Augusta, GA.
Pallbearers will be members of the military honor guard from Fort Gordon, GA. The family will receive friends from 6-8, Wednesday, September 26, 2018, at Elliott Sons Funeral Home on Lumpkin Road in Augusta, GA.
