Appling, GA- Mr. Stephen (Steve) E. Turner, 56, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2011 at University Hospital. Born in Savannah, GA, he served in the U.S. Army and moved to Augusta, GA at the age of 21. He has been a resident of Appling, GA for the past six years. In 2010, Steve retired after a 35 year career with the Augusta Police Dept. and the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office. He was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest and Lucille Morgan Turner, his brother, Jack Turner, and his in-laws, Bob and Betty Meehan.
He is survived by his wife, Pat Turner; daughter, Terra (Telly) Barksdale; two step daughters. Jennifer (Tracy) Smith, and Robyn (Jerry) Jarrett; and one beloved granddaughter, Sage Elizabeth Jarrett; brothers, Henry Lamar (Rebecca) Turner, Forrest (Dale) Turner, Jr.; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Graveside services will be held 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at Westview Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Emmitt Tip Carroll of Central Christian Church and Preacher Marion Jay of Sherwood Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be Gary Jay, Terry Teasley, Taryl Elam, Virgil Hughes, Steve Willard, and Dan Anderson. Honorary Pallbearers will be those who served with the former Augusta Police Dept. and the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, Past and Present.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 8, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
