Mr. Silas E. Hale, 84, of Augusta passed away Sunday, February 23, 2014. Hale had a passion for his farm, cattle, hogs and goats. He was a jovial storyteller with a heart of gold that left a smile on your face and imprint on all he met. Pa-Pa was an awesome grandfather and continuously brought joy to people. He was loved dearly and will be deeply missed.
Mr. Hale was born and raised in Courtland, Alabama one of ten children. Hale met the love of his life, Ethel, and made Augusta his home. In later years, he retired from the United States Army at Fort Gordon, after having served in Korea and three tours in Vietnam. Following his retirement, he worked for Sizemore Security.
Mr. Hale was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ethel Jones Hale; and his twin sister, Inos Letson. He is survived by his daughters, Carolyn Hale Hayes and Carolyn Edison; son, Barry White; devoted granddaughter and caregiver, Kristie (Andy) Garvey; several additional grandchildren including, Donel Nunnery and Lisa Hayes; and numerous great-grandchildren including Hannah, Sarah, Jordan Mays, Jameson Nunnery and Hunter Edison IV; brothers, Donald (Nell) Hale and James (Janet) Hale; sister, Nina Letson; he was loved and will be missed by many nieces, nephews and family in Lafayette, Indiana and Moulton, Alabama.
The family will receive friends Friday from 5 -9 PM at the funeral home.
Funeral Services will be held 2 PM, Saturday, March 1, 2014 in the Lumpkin Road Chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home. The family will also receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
