Ruby Marian Nelson was born March 2, 1922 in Kathryn, North Dakota and grew up there. She left home to finish high school in Enderlin, North Dakota in an accredited school. Following graduation, she applied and was accepted into Michael Reese Nursing School for her R.N. needed to follow her dream of being a flight attendant. World War II intervened and she enlisted in the Army and spent much of her enlisted time in O’Reilly General Hospital, Springfield, MO working in the plastic surgery unit.
It was during nursing school in Chicago that Ruby met her husband, Arnold Kleinrath and they were married November 28, 1946 at St. Pauli Lutheran Church, Kathryn, ND and made their first home in Mt. Prospect, IL. In 1950 they moved to Mound, MN; where they had two children, Connie an Arnold III. In 1960, Arnold’s work move the family to Aberdeen, SD. During this time, Ruby was a homemaker. Following the children’s completion of schooling, Ruby went back to nursing and retired from Dakota Midland Hospital Chemical Dependency Unit.
After retiring they moved to Augusta, GA in 2004 to be closer to their children. There they became active at Lakemont Presbyterian Church and the John Tabb Sunday School Class as well as volunteering at the downtown VA Hospital. Ruby was a resident at the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home since 2011.
Ruby is survived by her children, Connie and Arnold; grandson, Cody and great grandson, Michael.
A memorial service is planned for 1 PM, Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Lakemont Presbyterian Church.
