Audrey S. Buffington, 90, of Augusta, Georgia, wife of the late Claude R. Buffington, Jr., and daughter of the late Frank and Emma Sherwood, entered into rest at her residence on Tuesday, December 29, 2015. She is survived by her son, Kenneth Buffington and his fiancé Debbie Craddock; Patricia W. Shaw, Allen Woodward, her precious toy poodle Kolby, and other family members. She was preceded in death by her beloved cousin, Lester Woodward, who felt like a brother to her.
She was born in Erie, Pennsylvania, but Augusta was her home for 89 years. She loved the Lord and was a faithful and dutiful member of Calvary Baptist Church for more than 50 years, where she served on numerous committees and was a Sunday school teacher for 40 years.
She was a homemaker and loved to bake for her family, and was famous for her Christmas wreath cookies. She lovingly took care of her aunts Sadie and Essie McCullough for 32 years. She felt her greatest accomplishment was raising her son.
A celebration of life service will be held at Calvary Baptist Church on Monday, January 4, 2016, at 2:00 PM with Pastor Dwayne Carter officiating. She will be laid to rest at Hillcrest Memorial Park after the service.
The pallbearers will be James Busbee, Joey Savage, Clay Wilson, Kyle Wilson, Bryce Woodward and Andrew Sherman. Honorary pallbearers will be John Sherman, William Sherman and Daniel Sherman.
Visitation with the family will be Sunday, January 3, 2016, from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 2524 Lumpkin Road, Augusta, Georgia.
The family would like to thank Alliance Hospice; her nurse, Denise Miller; CNA, Daisy Burnett; special caregiver, Debbie Mansell; dear friend; Vicky Firestone, and her church family.
