Audrey Bell passed away on January 4, 2019. She was born in Cloverdale, Alabama on June 16, 1936. Her parents moved to Winter Haven, Florida in 1948. She graduated from Winter Haven High School in 1955.
She married Bobby Bell on January 23, 1959. They owned and operated their first restaurant in Lake Alfred called Bell’s Country Kitchen in the 1960’s. They purchased the property on Hwy 17 south of Lake Alfred in 1969 and remolded the building on the property opening their second restaurant named Amber Glo Restaurant in July of 1973.The menu consisted of Home Style Cooking. Audrey did the cooking in both restaurants for 16 years. She made homemade biscuits and pies daily. The business was sold to Richard Gardner in 1985 but the name remained Amber Glo Restaurant all through the years. They Bell’s opened Bell’s Produce in 1974 and Bell’s Cypress Clocks in 1980 on the same property.
Audrey had a stroke November of 2008 that left her paralyzed on her left side and in a wheelchair unable to walk or use her left hand. She spent several months in rehab centers doing therapy and also at home doing therapy. Audrey was a member of Westwood Missionary Baptist Church and loved her church and church family, although she was not able to attend as she used to because of her disability. Audrey loved to go fishing with her husband. She also had a hobby that she loved, Acrylic Painting. She painted on canvas, saw blades, glass vases, and rocks. She had a selection of her work displayed in her home. She enjoyed giving them away to friends who would appreciate her work.
Her husband, Bobby, passed away on May 25, 2009 at home. Her parents, Albert and Gladys Mayhan also preceded her in death. She is survived by her son, Chris Steelman (Teddie), grandson, Christopher Steelman, granddaughter, Brittany Gambrell (Corey), two great grandsons, Liam Coyner and Corbin Gambrell, three sisters; Jeannie Bell (Elton) of Winter Haven, Florida, Arvey Powell of Sylvester, Georgia, Linda Burchell (Tim) of Lakeland, Florida, brother-in-law, Don Bell (Phyllis), sister-in-law, Linda Gail Alexander (Galveston, and many other loved family members.
A visitation will be Held on Monday, January 7, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. with a funeral service following at 11 a.m. Both will be held at Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home in Auburndale, Florida. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Westwood Missionary Baptist Church in Winter Haven, Florida.
