Walter C. Jackson Jr, also known as, J by his family, Big Walt by his close friends and Boompa by his grandkids, died October 7, 2024 in his home in Lewiston, Maine with his wife and children present.
Walter was born on December 29, 1974 in Hartford, Connecticut to his parents Walter Jackson Sr and Cynthia Kitchen. He grew up in Hartford with his parents and brother Detrick. He attended Bulkeley High School and made All New England in the shot put and was inducted into the Hall of Fame with his football team in 2023. After graduation he moved to Lewiston, Maine to attend Bates College where he continued playing football and shot put. He made a permanent move to Maine after meeting his wife Trena Jackson who he married on October 14, 2000. Walter worked in the Lewiston/Auburn community mentoring homeless and at-risk youth for many years through the Boys and Girls Club and New Beginnings Transitional Living Services. He then worked for a short time at Facing Change providing substance abuse counseling. After many years in social work, he went corporate working for T-Mobile for the past 10 years. He has been recognized with many awards over his T-Mobile career, making the “In-Crowd” and awarded trips to Vegas and Miami. Walter was bigger than life and was dedicated to his family, work and friends. He was loved by everyone he met from back home in Connecticut, to Bates College, co-workers, the people he served, neighbors, friends from his softball and bowling leagues, and his family.
He is survived by his wife Trena Jackson and son Walter Jackson III of Lewiston Maine, daughter Accalia Jackson and two grandchildren Lei’yah and Omari of Auburn Maine, his brother Detrick Jackson of New Hampshire, two aunts, Dora Diane Chancellor of North Carolina and Tori Davis of Georgia and one uncle Julius Kitchen of Connecticut. He is also survived by many other family members and friends. He is predeceased by his parents Walter Jackson Sr and Cynthia Kitchen, grandmother Margaret Hunt, aunt Debra James, and many others.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday 11/2/24 at the Royal Oak Room, 1 Bates St, Lewiston, ME from 3-7PM.
