Robert Alfred Lamontagne, age 86, of Greene, Maine, passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at the Andwell Hospice House with his loving family by his side. Robert was born on April 19th, 1938, a son to Louis and Corona (Duchette) Lamontagne.
Robert was a resident of Lewiston, Maine. As a child he attended St. Mary's Catholic Schools. At the age of 16, Robert became a machinist and worked for his uncle in a local shoe shop. At the age of 18, Robert was drafted into the U.S Army for three years, serving the 103 Division 1st Infantry RCI. Robert served his country and became Sergeant 3rd Class in the Special Regimental Combat Division Unit.
Upon returning home, Robert met the love of his life Pierrette Duquette. They met through a lifelong friend Bert Landry on a blind date and became a forever. They continued dating until he asked for Pierrette's hand in marriage. Robert and Pierrette celebrated a double wedding with Bob's lifelong friend and Pierrette's sister Monique Duquette at Holy Cross Church on October 18, 1958. This is when they would begin their family, they had five children.
Robert was a machinist supervisor for Lewiston Shoe Machine out of Lisbon, Maine. He would repair machines for local shoe shops as well as travel through the United States repairing machines for other companies. While working and raising five children, Robert also continued to serve his country with the Army National Guard Reserve COQ 103 Division Infantry RCT out of Auburn, Maine and went to various states for training and duty calls.
He enjoyed being with his family and friends, that made his life complete. As he raised his family, he resided in Auburn until 2019 when he and his wife went to live with his son Donald and wife Rose, where they took care of him until his passing. He resided at 602 Route 202 in Greene, Maine.
Robert was predeceased by his parents Louis and Corona (Duchette) Lamontagne, his son Gerald Lamontagne, his granddaughters Cherry Lamontagne and Kimberly Lamontagne, his youngest brother Gerald Lamontagne, brother Mavis Lamontagne, brother Louis Lamontagne Jr and a sister Priscilla Charpentier.
He leaves behind his beloved wife Pierrette, his children Denise Benoit and partner Wendy Nix of Auburn, Raymond Lamontagne and fiance Kelly McCormick of Auburn, Daniel J. Lamontagne and wife Jeannie of Auburn and Donald Lamontagne and wife Rose of Greene. Robert also leaves behind his 11 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews and his sister Connie Beaucage.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Trina Lamontagne who cared for her grandfather until the end of life, she went above and beyond to ensure he had all that he needed, Gaige Roncort who was in training through the Greene Fire Department and was asked to help to carry his grandfather into the ambulance to transport him to the hospice house. That took courage but he was proud to do it for his hero! The family would also like to thank Andwell Hospice for caring for Robert during the last four days of his life. They were caring and compassionate to Robert and all of the family. They were very considerate and incredibly helpful. Last but not least, the family wishes to thank Rose, his daughter in law for caring for him and protecting him until his journey came to an end. She loved him dearly and he loved her just as much!
Military Honors and a graveside service for Robert will take place on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at Gracelawn Memorial Park at 11AM.
