Joan C. Libby, 86, of Schooner Estates passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 1, at Central Maine Medical Center. She was born in Auburn on May 2, 1929, the daughter of Cecil and Thelma (Pitman) Campbell. She attended local schools in Auburn and graduated from Edward Little High School in 1947. On June 19, 1948, she married her husband Richard D. Libby, and together they raised their family. For those who knew Joan, her family was the most important part of her life. She loved having them over for the holidays, cooking and providing her home as a place to gather. Joan was a member of the High Street Congregational Church for 50 years, serving on many committees. She was a deaconess and a very active member of the parish guild. She was also a member of the board of directors for the Chapman House. Joan participated in the art club and was an active lifelong member of the Taylor Pond Yacht Club. She loved to knit for her kids and grandchildren, as well as the Christmas fair at High Street Congregational. Joan is survived by her children, Susan and her husband, Jim Upham, of Bath, Diana and her husband, Michael Lambert, of Chester, Robert and his wife, Wendy Libby, of Brewer, and Thomas Libby of Massachusetts; two sisters, Betty and her husband, Roger Stone of New Hampshire, and Donna Sweetser of Auburn; grandchildren, Gretchen and her husband, Brian Fleming, Meghan and her husband, Lucien Gill, Joshua and his wife, Lynn Marie Libby, Rebecca Libby and her partner, Ryan, Brandon Libby and fiancée, Angela, and Bradley Libby; great grandchildren, Andrew, Matthew, Libby and Abby Fleming and Cadence Gill; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband; a brother, John Campbell; a brother-in-law, Dennis Sweetser; and a daughter-in-law, Kathleen Libby.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 5, at 2 p.m. at High Street Congregational Church in Auburn. Committal Service will be private at Mount Auburn Cemetery.
