1932 - 2024
Yarmouth - Mr. Ernest E. Beal, age 91, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday afternoon, February 5th at the Coastal Manor Nursing Home in Yarmouth with family at his side.
He was born in Jonesport, Maine on July 14, 1932, a son of Ernest Wellington and Ava (Reed) Beal. After graduating from Jonesport High School, he met and married the love of his life, Leah A. Urquhart on June 27, 1952 and together they settled in Jonesport to raise their five children Alton, Robert, Wayne, Larry and Charlotte before moving to Ellsworth about eight years later. Ernie had lived in Ellsworth for 62 years before his move to Yarmouth. He worked many jobs over the years, but his favorite was his many years with the Gilltex Company for whom he sold clothing to retail stores throughout Maine.
Ernie attended the Bible Baptist Church in Hancock, Maine for many years before relocating to Yarmouth.
Ernie served the Lord for many years singing, not only in his home church, but in other churches and nursing homes in the Downeast as well. He loved to talk with people, tell jokes to make them laugh and to put smiles on everyone's faces everyday, anytime he could.
Everyone loved Ernie as he made so many friends over the years in the greater Downeast area and beyond. He was an avid sports fan, especially of baseball and was an absolute fan of the New York Yankees and their storied franchise history. He was a loving, devoted and hardworking husband, father, grandfather and brother who will be dearly missed.
He leaves behind three sons Robert Beal and wife Sheila, Wayne Beal, and Larry Beal, all of Ellsworth; his daughter Charlotte Morse and husband Steve of Franklin, Maine;
his daughter-in-law Charleen Beal of Auburn; his grandchildren Ernie, who was named after him, Ashley, Tanya, Bridgette, Robbie, Nicki, Starr, Marsha, Jason, Jared and Caden; 18 greatgrandchildren; his distant cousin, Hubene Brodie, who like a sister to him, of Ellsworth and many nieces, nephews and friends. The family wishes to thank the entire staff at Coastal Manor for the excellent professional care and support they provided to him and for friendships he made during his time there. He was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife of 67 years, Leah Beal, his son Alton E. Beal who passed away on January 23rd of this year, and a brother Harlan Beal.
A Celebration of Ernie's life will take place on Sat. May 18th at 1 PM at the Bible Baptist Church in Hancock followed by interment with his wife in the family lot in Woodbine Cemetery in Ellsworth.
