Betty Ann Bates, 89, of Auburn passed away Saturday at St Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston. She was born on September 18, 1933 in Westport, MA the daughter of the late Thomas and Ruth (Bridge) Barton. She attended Edward Little High School in Auburn.
Betty worked as a bookkeeper at many businesses with Town and Country Meats being her last. In her retirement years she enjoyed knitting and was recently recognized for her charitable donations of hand made hats to Catholic Charities. She married Al Bates in April 1962 and started a family.
She is survived by her daughter Mary (Bates) Dawkins and her husband Maurice Dawkins Sr. She also leaves behind her grandchildren; Maurice Jr. and Dominique (Dawkins) Howard and her husband Taurean Howard as well as great grandchildren Tristan and Tatum. A graveside service will be held at Valley Cemetery in Greene at a date to be determined.
