1935 - 2012
LISBON - Albert Lawrence "Larry" Merrill, 76, died unexpectedly at his
home in Lisbon on Saturday, February 4, 2012.
He was born in Auburn on March 14, 1935, to Albert E. and Margaret
(Juul) Merrill, the second of four children.
He grew up on a farm in Auburn, and attended Auburn schools, graduating
from Edward Little High School in the Class of 1953.
He graduated from Maine Vocational-Technical Institute in South Portland, ME
on June 23, 1955,
with a degree in Technology of Automotive Mechanics.
He served in the United States Navy from April 10, 1957, until his
honorable discharge on April 1, 1959.
On September 11, 1960, he married Muriel Agnes Jones, who predeceased
him on February 24, 2009. Their infant daughter, Donna Sue Merrill,
predeceased him on August 14, 1961. He was also predeceased by his
parents and stepmother.
After the Navy, he worked at R.I. Mitchell, and then for many years with
the Auburn Highway Department, retiring in 1997.
Mr. Merrill is survived by his daughter, Deborah (and Raymond) Carlson,
currently of Lisbon, ME and formerly of Jacksonville, FL; his son, Brian
Merrill, of Gardiner;
his grandchildren, Autumn (and Chris) McCahill, and Jeremy (and Aisha)
Carlson; and his great-grandchildren, Jasmine Carlson, Aidan Clayton,
Dillon and Logan McCahill, all of Jacksonville, FL. Mr. Merrill is also
survived by his sisters, Dorothy LeClair of Auburn and Mavis (and David)
Pomeroy of Detroit, ME; his brother, Leonard (and Carolyn) Merrill of
Loudonville, NY; and his brother-in-law, Melville Jones, Jr., of
Auburn. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Jeff (and Anne)
Pomeroy, Barbara Pomeroy, Albert (and Jane) Merrill (and great-nieces
Leslie Juul and Rebecca Merrill), Ernest Merrill, and Emily Merrill (and
her husband Mark Ottensmeyer).
He will be missed by all who knew him.
Funeral Notice:
Merrill, Albert L. 2/4/12. A funeral service will take place at The Fortin
Group / AUBURN on Sat. at 10 AM. Committal and interment will take place
later in the Spring in the family lot at Mt. Auburn Cemetery. Instead of flowers, the family suggests donations in his memory to the Edward Little High School Alumni Association c/o ELHS 77 Harris St. Auburn, ME 04210 or to the charity of one's own choice.
