COMBS, JAMES D. (Butch) of Auburn Hills, went to be with the Lord September 17, 2019 at 72 years of age. Loving husband of the love of his life for 38 years, Christine Combs; cherished father of Angela (Sean) Anderson and Patricia McDowell; grandfather of Aidan, Evan, Brodie and Bella; brother of Patricia Thompson (late James); son-in-law to Louise Hays, brother-in-law to Barb Cox and Curt Hays and uncle to many.
James was predeceased by his parents James and Pearl Combs. He was born October 11, 1946 in Pontiac, Michigan, graduating from Avondale High School. He was a Vietnam veteran and served in the US Air Force. He proudly retired from General Motors in Pontiac as a foreman in 2002 after 38 years of dedicated service. James was a family man and cherished spending time with his family, an exceptional man who loved and served the Lord. He will be dearly missed by his church family and friends. He was a longstanding member of The Boulevard Church of God. Boating and fishing were among his favorite hobbies. He spent 28 years cherishing time with friends and family at the cottage on Lake St. Helen sitting around the campfire eating smores. He was an avid golfer with a great group of men and belonged to the Hadley Golf Club. He and his wife traveled extensively with friends and family and spent winters in Charlotte Harbor, Florida where he enjoyed long walks and picnics on the beach with his sweetheart and friends. James loved sports and he was particularly fond of attending all his grandchildren’s sporting events and recitals. He sang in the choir and he took great pride in having an immaculate lawn and garden that he and his wife maintained. James touched so many people’s lives. Please come to celebrate this amazing man. A memorial visitation will be held at Pixley Funeral Home on Friday, September 20, 2019 from 3-8PM with a Funeral Service, Saturday, September 21, 2019 beginning with an hour visitation from 10-11AM, funeral starting at 11AM at The Boulevard Church, 623 E. Walton Boulevard, Pontiac MI.
