Sterling Price Holloway III passed away on Saturday the 27th day of July, 2024 at the age of 86. He was born in Pasadena, California on May 29, 1938. Sterling grew up in southern California; moving to Auburn in 1972 with his wife Vera and children.
Sterling was a very vibrant and active member of the Auburn community. As a demolition contractor, he was instrumental in many projects that developed the area, including the widening of I-80 and the renovation of the Placer County Government Center in North Auburn. Sterling was an active member of the Tahoe Club, the 49er Business Association, and the Elks Lodge for 27 years. He loved the town of Auburn and spent many mornings having coffee with his various groups of friends frequenting; Edelweiss downtown and Wings at the airport. He even had a smoothie named after him at the Auburn Bodega store and deli. Sterling led a very active and accomplished life.
He served in the Air National Guard in his early 20s and at a young age, he started a demolition company, which over the years evolved into a thriving family business. As a licensed contractor along with his sons, he made Sterling P. Holloway III, Inc., into a successful business specializing in bridge and structure demolition, land clearing, and grading. He was a man of faith and a member of Saint Joseph and St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church parishes, which he attended regularly with his wife. He is beloved by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who affectionately called him “The Big Guy”. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
