Ronald J Coleman lost his long and valiant battle with cancer on August 4, 2012. He was 66 years old. He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Ann Staples Coleman, and his 4 children: Chad (Tiffany) Coleman, Wendy Stewart, Amy (Garrett) Burbidge, and Lisa (Andy) Salisbury. He was the proud grandpa to 9 grandsons and 5 granddaughters. Ron is also survived by his mother, Edie, and his brother, Dennis. He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin. He is also a cherished brother-in-law, uncle, nephew, and friend.
Ronald was born on July 22, 1946, in Sacramento, California. He spent his early years in Ukiah, Red Bluff, and Paradise, California, before moving to Newcastle in 1962. He graduated from Placer High School in 1964 and then attended Brigham Young University where he met and married Ann. After Ron earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in public administration, he and Ann moved back to Newcastle in 1970 where they build their business, Castle City Mobile Home Park. He was the co-owner and manager of the park for 42 years and was a friend to all who lived there. Ron also built the Coleman family home in Newcastle, much of it with his own two hands.
Ron was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in the Auburn area for more than 40 years in many positions of leadership: as a Bishop of the Auburn 3rd Ward, on the Auburn Stake High Council, as a Stake Missionary, and most recently, as an Assistant Recorder in the Sacramento Temple. He loved his Heavenly Father and his Savior, Jesus Christ, and was a great example to all who knew him of Christ-like service and love.
Ron was an active member of his community. He served on the Newcastle Elementary School District Board for 14 years. He also served as an elected member of the Placer County Planning Commission and on the Inter-Faith Food Closet. Ron also enjoyed his years as a Scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America.
Ron had many hobbies and interests, including gardening, fishing, hiking, backpacking, mountain biking, woodworking and pottery. His greatest joy was sharing these hobbies with his children and grandchildren. He and Ann traveled extensively in the last several years. Ron’s favorite trip was a tour of the Holy Land.
A memorial service will be held in his honor on Saturday, August 11, 2012 at 2pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1255 Bell Road, in Auburn. Please sign the online guestbook at www.chapelofthehills-auburn.com
