Joe M. Pereira was born in Sao Miguel, Azores Portugal on September 25, 1939 to Jose Rego and Maria Conceicao (Almeida) Pereira. He passed away on June 27, 2010 at age 70 after an eight month battle with the medical complications stemming from surgery to treat lung cancer.
Joe came to California and the San Joaquin Valley in 1955 and proudly became an American citizen in 1960. He lived for over 25 years in Orange County and retired as a pipefitter/fireman from the ARCO refinery in Wilmington. Joe and his wife, Angela, moved to Lincoln in 2006 to be closer to their daughter, Ana, their grandchildren, his siblings and their children as well as his wife's niece, Nelia Lathrom (Jerald) of Grass Valley.
Joe was a 32nd degree Mason, Elk, a member of the Lincoln Lions Club and the Associacao Portuguesa Divino Espirito Santo of Lincoln. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and after he retired became quite an excellent cook. He also enjoyed meeting and sharing life stories with everyone he met. He was a gentle man and loved to meet his friends everyday for morning coffee. He will be missed greatly by his family and everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 49 1/2 years, Angela, his only child, Ana Pereira Stevenson, his son-in-law Jeffrey Stevenson and his grandchildren, Hannah and William of Lincoln. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law Gil and Catherine Pereira of Foothill Farms; his sister Leonor Armstrong of Sacramento; and step-sister Zilda DaSilva of Gustine; along with numerous nieces and nephews who loved him very much.
A visitation and Rosary will be held Wednesday, June 30 at 6:30pm and the funeral Mass will be at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lincoln on Friday, July 2 at 10:00am. He will be laid to rest in Monterey at the San Carlos Cemetery.
