Jim " Zip" Weddle, 83, passed away at his home on July 1. Jim was born in Portland, Oregon April 23, 1938. Jim joined the Navy as a teenager and served on the Essex class Aircraft Carrier USS Tarawa . He met his wife Vera in January 1960, and after convincing her family he was worthy, they were wed in October 1960. After becoming a core drilling technician for many years, Jim took on the daunting task of Mill Wright at Lausman Lumber Mill in Grass Valley. The job required long hours of moving faster than someone should, hence he earned the nickname Zip.
A new direction in careers brought Jim to a long sought after job as owner operator of a log truck, which grew to a small fleet of 4 trucks. After retiring from logging and driving, Jim took a more active role in the Weddle Family Care Home he and Vera built from the ground up. Jim also was finally able to return to and renew his earlier passion of hot rods and race cars, competing often at Sacramento Raceway.
