Freda James was born, the 5th of 4 children, on August 31, 1927 in Keota, Oklahoma and passed away on November 27, 2012 in Auburn, California. She lived in Newcastle on Ridge Road since 1947. She was a stay at home mom doing what she loved – taking care of family, cooking (her specialty was homemade hot rolls), quilting and she was an avid bingo player. She went to work at Hilltop manor and retired after 24 years. She was preceded in death by her husband Davis T. James, her parents Floyd and Martha Brown, brothers Merle, JR, Alvin, and Vernon Brown, and her sisters Gladys Gunter and Verna Duty. She is survived by her sons, Vernon, David, and Jeffrey James, daughter Gloria (James) Spencer, brothers Tony, Gene and Ronnie Brown, sisters Helen Fowler, Virginia Johnson, Violet Mitchell, and Elaine Mann, 11 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.
A viewing is to be held on Sunday, December 2, 2012 from 2pm-5pm at Chapel of the Hills, 1331 Lincoln Way, Auburn, CA 95603. A graveside service will be held on Monday, December 3, 2012 at 11am at Newcastle Cemetery, 850 Taylor Road, Newcastle, CA 95658.
