Barbara Ann Waters Poole Clark passed away peacefully at the age 91, into her loving Lord and Savior’s arms on November 20, 2022 with family members by her side in her beloved home in Auburn. She was born on June 28, 1931 at home in Westville, Oklahoma to John Waters and Edna Babb Waters. As a young child, she moved with her family to Auburn and attended Lincoln Way Elementary School and graduated from Placer High School class of 1949.
Barbara was very involved in high school activities participating in drama, vocal productions and student body activities. Barbara was praised by fellow students for her singing at assemblies and other high school events. In 1948 she was chosen by the student body as the “Ideal Gal” for her smile. She also wrote an advice column in the school newspaper under the name of Babbling Waters. She was baptized in 1944 at age 13 in the Baptist Church in Auburn. In 1962 she became a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran church teaching Sunday school and singing in the church choir. She was very passionate in her faith and her Christian walk with her Lord continued for the remainder of her life.
Barbara married first husband Nelson E. Poole Jr., her high school sweetheart, on October 23, 1949. Barbara and Nelson were team managers of Sprouse Reitz variety stores in Northern California and opened a new store in March 1962 in the Sierra Elm Center at Highway 49 and Elm Ave in Auburn. After Nelson’s passing in 1967 Barbara worked at the Alpine Plaza Variety Store and then worked for First American Title Company, raising three children as a single mother.
In 1972 Barbara married Harry B. Clark blending her family with Harry's two daughters. Barbara began her career as a real estate agent working alongside Harry in their business Placer Land Company, a successful and respected real estate firm. Barbara’s caring personality developed business relationships with clients that evolved into lifelong friendships. She was honored many times by the Placer County Association of Realtors for her accomplishments in the real estate field. In her younger years she enjoyed playing golf with her husband Harry and business associates. The couple also enjoyed traveling and spending time with their family and the Chow Chow dogs they loved so much at their home in Auburn.
Retiring from real estate in 2010 Barbara continued to be the matriarch of her family. She spent much time praying and caring for her children, grandchildren and great grand children with love and wise advice sometimes just needing to lend a sympathetic ear.
