Andre was a very intelligent and adventurous man.
He was full of life and accomplished much in his 87 years. He was hoping to make it to his 88th birthday in May.
He wore so many hats in his lifetime. From his love of painting to becoming a great chef and even owning one of his restaurants at one time in Sacramento. His love of the sea and ocean aided in his devoted service in the Belgium Navy for five years. From there, he left his home in Belgium and moved to the United States in the early 60s where he began his career as a chef in southern California.
Through his hard work, Andre was able to save enough money to buy his first small yacht. He rebuilt one of his boats to make it a most beautiful piece of art! He named his yacht the SS Revenge which was the name of the ship he served on in Belgium. From there, it became a love affair with the water and boating.
Andre didn’t know much English when he arrived in the US, he taught himself by using a Dictionary which he carried around with him and would utilize whenever a word stumped him.
Andre made friends wherever his adventures would take him. From growing up during World War II in Belgium to his escapades in life! he was a storyteller and had so many interesting tales to share with his friends, family, and acquaintances.
As Andre got older, and his health was failing, he would share his worldliness with anyone who would lend an ear. Everyone he talked with loved to hear about his exciting life ventures and exploits.
He was a sailor who lived his life well, and never let the grass grow under his feet.
His family and friends miss him dearly.
Love, his first mate, Connie.
