June 3, 1919-April 5, 2023
The Lord has chosen at this time to call home another angel, our beloved mother and grandmother Ruth Hazel Brothers. Hazel was born in Duncan, South Carolina on June 3, 1919 and lived there until she was 6 months old when her parents moved their family to Alabama. She grew up on a farm and spent her time working in the fields and helping her mother in the house. She went through the 9th grade at Walnut Grove High School.
Mrs. Brothers left this walk of life on April 5, 2023 and entered the gates of Heaven at 1:03 that morning. She passed just 2 months shy of her 104th birthday. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jason and Annie Bell Brown; her 5 brothers Curt, Jack, Claud, Harmon and Clyde (Bud) and her two sisters Marie and Lynn. Also preceded in death by husband Alvis Butler Brothers; sons Curtis Lavell Brothers, Randy Dale Brothers and Phil Ray Brothers; one daughter Sherry Dianne Brothers Tanner, one grandson Anthony (Tony) Darrell Brothers, son-in-law Donnie R. Tanner and daughter-in- law Brenda Crowder Brothers.
She is survived by her son Rodger (Doris) Brothers, her daughter Kathy Lynn Brothers, Daughter-in-law Lynne Brothers, one grandson Josh (Kim) Tanner and three granddaughters Jenny Lynn Tanner, Brandy Brothers Townsend and Tony's wife Susan Hallman Brothers. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren, Clint (Haley) Brothers, Chase Tanner, Allie Tanner, Ally Townsend, Jaxon Freeman, Cammy Townsend, Shyanne Freeman and Isaiah Wingo. Her grandchildren and great- grandchildren fondly called her Mammaw.
Hazel's hobbies in life included fishing which she would do every day if she could have, gardening, canning, cooking, going to Sacred Harp singings and enjoying the holidays with her family. She was a wonderful mother and her family will miss her presence in our lives. She was our hero and kept us entertained in her later years with many stories about her growing up years. She was a wonderful cook and was well known for her fried apple pies and the lemonade she took to the singings.
Pallbearers will be Rodger Brothers, Josh Tanner, Clint Brothers, Chase Tanner, Jaxon Freeman and Joel Teague. Her youngest great grandson Isaiah Wingo will walk in front of the casket holding Uncle Rodger's bible.
Visitation will be held at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Attalla on Thursday April 6, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and the funeral will be on Friday April 7, 2023 at 1:00 PM in the chapel. The eulogy will be done by Josh Tanner and the message by Rev. Rodger Brothers. Graveside services will follow at Rainbow Memorial Gardens where Hazel will be buried next to her beloved husband.

The family would like to thank Amedysis Hospice especially her nurse Tyler Pence and her social worker Robert. Mother loved cutting up with both of them and they are just really special to our family for the great care they gave our mother. Also we want to thank the two caregivers Kim Malcolm and Angie Hindman who helped Kathy take care of Mother her last few weeks on this earth. They took such great care of Mother and we are forever thankful.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.morganfuneralchapel.com for the Brothers family.
