David Lee Kirkland, age 62, of Ashville, passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2022, after a battle with cancer. He was born on October 6, 1959, in Gadsden, AL and later attended Litchfield High School in Gadsden. David worked as a mechanic at Cowboy’s in Gadsden before pursuing a career with the Alabama Department of Corrections as a Corrections Officer, where he worked for 25 years. David was a true outdoorsman. He loved fishing and hunting deer, turkey, and hogs. He had been with the love of his life, Emily, for 18 years. He was fiercely loved by her, his sons, and so many other family members and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents Edgar Lee and Maude Virginia Kirkland; brothers Larry Kirkland, Eddie Kirkland, and Dennis Kirkland; and sisters Susan Jackson and Peggy Kirkland.
He is survived by his wife Emily Smith Kirkland; sons Curt Kirkland and Jacob (Tonya) Coffee; brother Kenneth (Cathy) Kirkland; sister Elaine Kirkpatrick; granddaughters Alara Praise and Blakely Elizabeth Coffee; and a host of nieces, nephews, in laws, special friends, and extended family members.
Visitation will be Saturday, April 9, 2022, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Morgan Funeral Chapel & Crematory. Services will follow at 12:00 PM.
