Walter L. Miller, passed away Sunday, July 7 at the age of 81. A native of Tampa, Florida and the seventh of eight children, he was born July 23, 1931 and graduated from Hillsborough High School. In 1949, he began a long distinguished career spanning 46 years in marketing and research services at Retail Credit Company (which later became Equifax). He moved to corporate headquarters in Atlanta in 1958 working primarily with petroleum and fast food industries and retired as a National Account Executive of Equifax in 1995. He attended and graduated from Georgia State University. Walt married his wife, Jane, on August 3, 1963 at Our Lady of the Assumption in Atlanta, and then became an active member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church for 50 years. He was known for his infectious enthusiasm and love for people and was a great storyteller. A devoted father and husband, his greatest joy was spending quality time with his family. He also enjoyed many years of volunteer service in diverse settings such as the Shepherd Spinal Center and the Vietnamese immigrant community in Atlanta (teaching English). However, his greatest joy was serving in various capacities at St. Pius X Catholic High School. Known and loved by so many in the Pius community, he was honored for thirty years of service in 2012 when the main gym concessions were named “G’Dad’s Place” (which he was affectionately called by his grandchildren). He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Jane Greear Miller, five children: Melanie Wall (Bill) of Birmingham, AL., Valerie Maloof (Steve) of Atlanta, Mary Lisa McCarthy (Billy) of Dothan, AL., Holly Emberson (Tom) of Nashville, TN., and Lee Miller (Jeaneen) of Atlanta; sixteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren; a brother, William C. Miller (Jenny), and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
