Ted Levy

Ted Levy was born on 6/15/30 in New York City. He grew up in Atlanta where he was a member of the last graduating class at Boys High in 1947. He then graduated from Georgia Institute of Technology with Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Architecture and Structural Engineering.

After graduating from Georgia Tech, Mr. Levy entered the United States Navy where he served on active duty for five years flying P2V antisubmarine planes over the North Atlantic. He remained in the Naval Reserves until he retired in 1987, with the exception of a second period of active duty during the Cuban missile crisis. He attained the rank of Rear Admiral, the highest rank possible for a reserve officer. Admiral Levy had many duties and involvements in the navy, including serving on the editorial board of the Naval Institute Press when they published Tom Clancy’s first novel “Hunt for Red October”.

Mr. Levy was also a prominent architect and developer who had a considerable impact on the skyline of Atlanta. He was known for such buildings as Plaza Towers and Park Place on Peachtree, as well as numerous private homes and office buildings. In the 1980s, he was the largest rehabilitation architect/developer in Massachusetts, where he refurbished historic mills in towns including Boston, Lowell, Lancaster, Newton and North Andover.

Mr. Levy had a life long love of ham radios and flying, including acrobatic flying. In suitable weather, he could be seen flying over Atlanta in his Stearman biplane. Mr. Levy had a loving family and is survived by his wife, Renata Lewy Levy, and 3 children, Kim Levy Huhman, Bret Levy and Keith Levy. “Teddy” was the devoted grandfather of Matt, Alex, Aaron and Grant. Mr. Levy is also survived by his sister, Claire Levy Frankel, of Connecticut.

The family will host a celebration of the life of Ted Levy at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the charity of your choosing.
