Harriet Suzanne Pye Richardson, age 86, of Atlanta, passed away Thursday, May 29, 2014. She is the daughter of the late Theodosia Jordan Pye and John William Pye, Sr. of Woodland, Georgia. She attended Brenau Women’s College for two years and completed her education graduating from the University of Georgia in 1948 with a degree in Home Economics and Early Childhood Education. She was a teacher in the Atlanta School System from 1948 until 1955 and continued in a volunteer capacity working on committees that introduced special education programs into the public school system. She was a member of the Phi Mu Fraternity, Daughters of the American Revolution Cherokee Chapter, Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church, Atlanta History Center, and the Buckhead History Club. She is preceded in death by her husband, Warren Simons Richardson, Sr., brother, John William Pye, Jr. and daughter, Harriet Pye Richardson. She is survived by four children, Suzanne Richardson Callaway, Warren (Ricky) Simons Richardson, Jr., Elizabeth Richardson Kemp, and John Davison Richardson; three grandsons, Michael Dale Quist (son of Elizabeth Kemp), Joseph Warren Callaway, and Christopher Davison Richardson, all of Atlanta. A memorial service is planned for 3PM on Thursday, June 5, at the Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church in the sanctuary with Dr. James Neil Hollingsworth, Jr, and Dr. David Sapp, officiating. The family will receive visitors at a reception following the service in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church, 2715 Peachtree Road NE, Atlanta, Georgia 30305.
