Shirley Stutts Heath Roberts, wife of Lamar H. Roberts, passed away on Monday, May 25th. A funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, May 28, 2015 at 2 o’clock at Northside United Methodist Church with Dr. Gil Watson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow in the Roberts plot, Southview Cemetery, Canton, Georgia.
Mrs. Roberts was born in Mobile, Alabama, the only child of Matson and Lila Stutts Heath, and raised in Talladega, Alabama, her father’s native home. She graduated with honors from Talladega High School and later from Agnes Scott College with a degree in Mathematics and Physics. For several years, until her marriage, she taught Math at Sylvan High School. Later, she taught at The Lovett School and was head of the Math department for the Middle School.
Mrs. Roberts was interested in antiques and was owner of The Cobweb for most of her adult life. She was president for over 50 years of her Agnes Scott graduating class. She was also an original founder for the Northside Methodist Preschool, and active in Northside Methodist Church in various capacities including Board of Trustees. She was a member of The Pine Tree Garden Club and a proud member of The Alabama Club.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Roberts is survived by her children and their spouses; Malinda and William Hill, Susan and John Helms all of Atlanta and Missy and Matson Roberts of Richmond, Virginia. Grandchildren surviving are Dorsey and Maggie Hill, Kathleen and John Helms, Jr., and Meriwether and Matson Roberts, Jr.
