Scott David Irwin died of natural causes on October 14, 2020 in Atlanta, Georgia. He was 55. Scott was born in Westfield, NY, on October 7, 1965 to parents James Harvey Irwin, Jr. and Alberta Pattangall Irwin. He later moved to Fairborn, OH, with his family where he attended elementary and middle school and then to Cincinnati, OH, where he graduated from Walnut Hills High School. Scott was known for his athletic and musical skills – on the basketball court, the tennis court and in marching band and orchestra.
Scott earned a BA in Sociology from Earlham College in Richmond, IN. While in college Scott played varsity tennis and enjoyed playing drums in a rock band with his friends. After college Scott lived in Cincinnati and Columbus, OH, and in Memphis and Jackson, TN, before settling down in Atlanta in 2001. Scott helped others as a certified nurse’s assistant and was a dedicated member of Central Presbyterian Church where he enjoyed playing in the bell choir.
Scott was truly one of a kind with a warm heart and an off-the-wall sense of humor. He was a walking encyclopedia of music trivia and also enjoyed watching Braves baseball and Premier League football.
Scott is survived by his parents Jim and Alberta Irwin of Atlanta; brothers Kirk Irwin of Edinburgh, Scotland and Evanston, IL, and Ian Irwin of Atlanta; sister-in-law Joanna Irwin of Atlanta; nephews and nieces Andrew Irwin and Jessie Reuteler of Chicago, and Charlie and Sadie Irwin of Atlanta. The family will host a virtual memorial service from Central Presbyterian Church on Sunday, October 25 at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the music ministry of Central Presbyterian Church in Scott’s memory.
