Sarah Bell Cunningham was born in York, AL on July 31, 1928 to Eulon Clifford Bell and Lorain McIlwain Bell. Sarah went to school in Gilbertown, AL and York, AL. She attended the University of West Alabama for a year and then worked as a bookkeeper for the York Coca Cola Bottling Company. While working for this company she met her husband L.G. Cunningham. Sarah and L.G. were married in York, AL on September 11, 1956 and were married for 56 years until his death. Sarah and L.G. loved to travel. She visited 57 countries in her lifetime. She loved to read, garden, bird watch, bake, and cook. What she loved most of all was spending time with her family, especially her two young grandchildren. Sarah was a member of Sandy Springs Christian Church. She loved her church and participated in many of its activities. One of her proudest contribution was The Bell Conference Center at The University of West Alabama. Sarah is survived by her son, John Cunningham, daughter-in-law Emily Loyd Cunningham, grandson Tyler, and granddaughter Caroline of Cumming, GA; sister Louise D. Bradberry, Jefferson, GA; and many nieces and nephews. After a brief illness, Sarah passed away on October 19, 2014 at Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta, GA. Preceding Sarah in death was her husband, L.G. Cunningham, father and mother, Eulon and Loraine Bell, brother’s Richard C. Bell and Clifford Bell. The funeral service will be held at Sandy Springs Christian Church on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at 2:00 PM. The burial service will be held at the York Cemetery in York, AL Thursday, October 23, 2014 at 2:30 PM. Donations may be sent to The Alzheimer’s Association or The American Cancer Society.
