Ouida Sims Herndon, 99, died October 1, 2010 due to a stroke. Born and raised in Winder, Georgia. A resident of Atlanta and Dekalb County for over 60 years, Ouida retired from Sinclair Oil and Muse’s as a key punch operator and volunteered at Northside Hospital for 26 years. She belonged to the Road Runners walking group and enjoyed keeping active. Ouida attended Wieuca Road Baptist Church and was a member of the Love Sunday School class. She loved to travel after retirement with trips across the US and several to Europe. Preceded in death by her husband in 1940, Emmett O’Neal Herndon, sons, Howard Emmett Herndon and Emile Herndon, five sisters and two brothers. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Louis F. (Sandra) Herndon, grandsons, James O’Neal (Lisa) Herndon and Mark (Sarah) Herndon, great-grandchildren, Will, Ben, Andy, Claire, Mark, Jr. and Abby Herndon, a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 4 at 11 o’clock at Oglethorpe Hill Chapel with interment at Rose Hill Cemetery in Winder, Georgia at 1:30. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 2 until 5 at H.M. Patterson & Son, Oglethorpe Hill Chapel, 4550 Peachtree Road, NE, Atlanta, Georgia 30319.
