Joseph W. Lovas, Jr. passed away on April 5, 2024 at the age of 79. Loving father of Joseph W. (Kelly) Lovas, brother of Andrew Lovas and friend of many. Treasured son of the late Joseph W. Lovas and the late Cecile E. Lovas.
Joe was born in Woodside, New York and moved to Manhasset, New York with his family in 1954. He attended St. Mary’s High School where he was a member of the varsity basketball team and later attended Villanova University. Following graduation from Villanova, Joe was commissioned as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, Joe embarked on a two-decade career at IBM. Post retirement from IBM, he began a second career as a financial advisor and worked at Wells Fargo Advisors at the time of his passing. In 2014, Joe moved from Manhasset, New York to Savannah, Georgia to be closer to his only child.
Joe loved the outdoors and spending time with his white golden retriever named Molly. At various stages of his life, he was an avid swimmer, basketball and tennis player, skier, fisherman and golfer. Joe and his son spent a significant amount of their time enjoying father-son golf trips. More than anything else, Joe relished being a father. His son was the center of his life. Joe was an incredibly passionate and loyal friend to many.
Joe is at peace. Remember him.
For those that reside near Savannah, a celebration of life will take place at Joe’s favorite restaurant, Driftaway Cafe (7400 Skidaway Rd, Savannah, GA 31406) on May 16, 2024 from 4pm to 7pm ET. Food and drinks will be provided.
