Howard Carlyle Bowie, Jr., age 83, of Atlanta passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2013. Mr. Bowie was born in High Point, NC, on February 21, 1930. Surviving are his wife, Mary Schulstad Bowie, daughters; Mary Elizabeth & Robert Allan Guyton of Atlanta, GA, Brenda Anne & Edward Groves Jones III of St. Simons Island, GA, and Jamie Nanette & James Ian Yakabuski of Celebration, FL, grandchildren; James Howard Bowie, Jessie Guyton Alexander, Clara Schulstad Guyton, Nathan Allan Guyton, Jacqueline Shea Tankersley, Courtney Gayle Yakabuski, Kara Mikaela Kiser, and Evan James Yakabuski, nieces; Barbara McKinley and Tracey Parham, and nephew; John Bowie Tolbert. He is preceded in death by his parents, Howard Carlyle & Ruth Poole Bowie of North Carolina, and his sister; Betty Remelle Bowie Tolbert. Mr. Bowie graduated from high school in Henderson, NC and went on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Business at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was in the United States Air Force and a veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Bowie married Ruth Mary Schulstad on February 20, 1954, and they were married for 59 years. He worked as an executive in management for Sears Roebuck & Co. for over 30 years. He enjoyed sailing, RV’ing, and was a musician. Mr. Bowie was actively involved in his church as a dedicated church member. He was a Rotarian, a member of Omicron Delta Kappa, and Past Commodore of the Smyrna Yacht Club in New Smyrna Beach, FL. A memorial is scheduled for Monday, March 18, 2013, at 11 o’clock in the morning at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 435 Peachtree St., Atlanta, GA 30308. Interment will be in the St. Luke’s Episcopal Church Memorial Garden, with a reception to follow at the church. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in his memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 41 Perimeter Center East, Suite, 550, Atlanta, GA 30346. The family of Mr. Howard C.
