Harry Franklin McDevitt , 77 passed away December 27, 2012 of heart failure. He was surrounded by family and loved ones. A 40 + year member old Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Mr. McDevitt was born and raised in Atlanta and graduated from Grady High School, then attended the University of South Carolina and Georgia Tech where he played football.
Affectionately know as “Big Harry” he was a well know athlete throughout his playing years. However his most enjoyment, other than being a husband and father was touching the lives of thousands of kids as a coach in youth sports. Upon retirement from Georgia Power after a 35 year career Mr. McDevitt became a part time coach to focus on following his children and grandchildren in their college and travel sports throughout the country. He also loved sharing the outdoors with them.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Harriet and his children Harry Jr. (Helen), Patrick (Susan)Sean (Tracy) Julia(Wayne) Heather; Shannon; Brian(Stephanie), 16 grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Funeral services will be held Monday December 31m 2012 at 2pm at H.M. Patterson & Son Spring Hill Chapel with the family receiving friends one hour prior.
