George Dewey Johnson, Jr, 85, passed away Saturday January 30, 2021 from COVID-19 complications. He was at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. He was born in Fort Worth, TX, the son of Adeline and George Johnson Sr. He graduated from North Fulton High School in 1953. He graduated from Georgia Tech in 1957 with a bachelor’s in Chemical Engineering. He was an SAE, inducted into the Georgia Tech Athletic Hall of Fame for golf and shot 60 while in college. Following college George served in the United Sates Navy as a Petty Officer. After his service, he and his brother-in-law started and ran Southern Fire Control and Argus Fire Control from 1960 to 2000. George was a lifetime member at Capital City Country Club and Peachtree Presbyterian Church.
He was a loving family man, a shrewd businessman, an excellent golfer, chef and woodworker. He was proud of his time as a Naval officer, always enjoyed being at the lake, and loved his true love, Judy. He will be sadly missed by all that knew him. He is preceded in death by his wife, Juliette Carter Johnson and his son, Christopher Hull Johnson. He leaves behind two sons, George Sheldon Johnson and James Carter Johnson, his grandchildren, Alexandra Darby, Carter Johnson, Bennet Johnson, Ralston Johnson, and Annabel Johnson, and his great grandson, Augusten Darby. Private services will be held on February 8, 2021 at Arlington Memorial Park at 2:00. Donations may be made to the Lake Rabun Association Foundation (www.lakerabun.org).
