July 14, 1936 – November 15, 2021
Dean Roberts Giles was born in Commerce GA to the late Ernest Howell Roberts and Elvira Frances
Webb. After her father died the family moved to Savannah, GA during World War II, and following the
war to Winder, GA. She graduated from Winder High School in 1954. She moved to Atlanta, GA to train
and work as an X-Ray Technician at Grady Hospital. She also worked for doctors Davidson, Arp, Atwater
and Peacock at the Atlanta Internal Medicine Group in the W.W. Orr building on Peachtree St in
Midtown.
When she met he husband Larry Giles she found her soul-mate. Someone who shared her values, sense
of humor, and enthusiasm for football and baseball games. Attending opening games for the Atlanta
Braves and Falcons at Atlanta Fulton County Stadium were some the most cherished memories of their
courtship. Cheering the Braves, Falcons and UGA Bulldogs would be something they shared for the rest
of their lives together.
Yet the most important part of her life was her family. She was always a loving wife and in recent years
a devoted caregiver to her husband as they both struggled with the infirmities of old age. She was a
beloved mother to her two children Robert and Emily, and she cherished the life-long mutual support of
and from her sister Nancy. She will be remembered by many as a kind hearted friend and neighbor.
She is survived by her husband Larry Mills Giles, her son Robert Armstrong Giles, both of Atlanta, her
daughter Emily Catherine Giles of Athens, GA, and her sister Mrs. Charles H. Jones of Winder GA.
In recognition of her love of dogs and cats, memorial gifts can be made to the Atlanta Humane Society.
A memorial service to remember Dean will be held on at 12:00pm on May 20, 2022 at Saint Mark United Methodist Church, 781 Peachtree Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30308
